Following on from my last post about dreaming I thought I’d briefly recap one of the main differences between The Magician and The High Priestess. These two cards represent the two types of mental intelligence as follows…
The Magician: Rational/logical intelligence i.e. left brained.
The High Priestess: Lateral/creative intelligence i.e. right brained.
Both cards are equally important in Tarot suggesting that both types of intelligence are equally valued. The same cannot be said for Western Civilization. In the last 2000 years reason and logic has come to be seen as the superior form of intelligence. Like women, intuitive intelligence has not been valued as highly as it was in the ancient world. I blame the Greeks for this, Aristotle in particular, but that’s another story.
You can learn a lot by looking at The Magician and High Priestess as a pair. These two cards go together like ramma lamma lamma ka dinga da dinga dong. Whoops, sorry, I got a bit distracted. Grease was one of my favourite movies when I was a teen and song lyrics from that movie pop into my head at the most unexpected moments. This is a classic example of how lateral intelligence works. It highlights the relationships and connections between the most unexpected things.
Are you more rational like The Magician or intuitive like The High Priestess? Or like me, you see yourself as being ambi-intelligent (I think I just made that word up, lol.) i.e. you use both?
