I promised a lovely lady on my Facebook page ages ago that I’d republish all my medical Tarot blogs. Here’s one I found. Sorry it took so long…
I’ve had way more experience of mental health issues in the last few years than I ever wanted to so I thought it might be time to tackle the Tarot of Mental Illness in more depth. Unsurprisingly the cards involved include those in the last section of Life Lessons Tarot (aka the Major Arcana). Note: These cards might turn up reversed in a reading about mental illness.
The Devil: Living in denial. An inability to face reality. Losing yourself in drugs. Denial that you have a mental illness.
Five of Pentacles: Low self esteem. Self hatred.
The Tower: Mental breakdown
Six Of Cups: Hallucinations. Delusions. (I haven’t seen this interpretation elsewhere but it’s what rings true for me. I’d love to hear other’s thoughts on this.)
NIne Of Swords: Anxiety/ Panic disorder
Ten of Swords: Depression
The Star: Hospitalisation. Medication.
The Moon: Psychosis (reversed). Therapy (upright). Revealing the hidden issues underlying the illness.
The Sun: Rebirth. Becoming a healthier you. This is what we all want. But sometimes we have to go through hell first to achieve it.
Ed Update: I am currently on this journey with a close family member. Her Tarot Cards-Of-The-Year have reflected her experience.
Last year: The Moon – Sudden escalation of underlying health issues including psychosis. Begins therapy.
This year: The Sun – She has made new friends and felt much more positive about life. Condition has been managed better although still not well understood by doctors.
Next year: Judgement – Here’s hoping we finally find a health professional who can give us an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
Mental Health – Definitely a journey, not a destination, lol.
