Saturday Night Fight Club: Six of Swords vs Eight of Cups

You learn a lot about Tarot cards when you compare them with one another. Especially those that are similar. The six of swords and the eight of cups both deal with moving on. So what’s the difference between them?

A key to this is in their suit. One is swords and the other is cups. Swords are about thoughts. Cups are about emotions.

Sunday Spotlight: Four of Pentacles

Sometimes the images in the Smith Waite deck can give cards a bad rap.

The Four of Pentacles is a great example of this.

The dude in the picture looks like he’s clutching his money too tight. Like he’s possessive. Miserly. Reminiscent of Scrooge in The Christmas Carol.

He wants to own.

He wants to control.

He wants to prevent others from touching these gifts as well.

But it’s important to remember that every Tarot card has a positive, as well as a negative, implication.

The Four of Pentacles can also indicate the need to hold onto what you have. Or that you’ve made material gains that you deserve to take credit for!

Don’t assume just because the picture on a card looks ‘bad’ that its meaning should be taken this way. Smith and Waite would have had their own subconscious biases when designing them.

Would you agree?

I mean, look at my face in that photo. You can see how happy I am. And why wouldn’t I be happy when I’m surrounded by a gorgeous view of sandy beaches and aqua blue waters (This is Bruny Island in Tasmania, by the way).

Before the post holiday blues set in, you get to feel the post holiday glow.

Which is this card…

There’s the rising cost-of-living, testing political situations, devastating fires (or floods or other climate events), needless wars, and online bots dedicated to spreading lies about everything. It’s like the ground beneath us has shifted in recent times, making it hard for us to stay afloat.

Which is this card…
