Commencement 2020

Thanks to the coronavirus, commencement speeches have been forced online this year.

Whilst it obviously isn’t the same as having a real-life graduation, it’s been wonderful to see so many prominent members of our community take time to remember the Class of 2020.

But what lessons would Tarot wish to convey to graduates?

I believe we find the answer in the last line of the Major Arcana. Or as I like to call it, the Life Lessons section of the Tarot deck. Let’s take a look, shall we?

Throwback Thursday: Tarot’s Holy Book Part 2

I’ve written before about how Tarot contains a holy book that charts the journey of a human soul through all the stages and experiences of life. I call these cards Life Lessons Tarot. But they’re better known as the Major Arcana.

These lessons are divided into three parts. We’ve already looked at the first part: Childhood. The second part covers adulthood. As follows… Continue reading

The Tarot of Westworld

unknown

I finally got around to watching Westworld. Despite many recommendations from friends, I didn’t like it’s misogynistic overtones. Of course, once I started, I couldn’t stop. Which doesn’t mean it was perfect.

Here are my many thoughts on the Tarot of Westworld.

But beware, spoilers after the cut… Continue reading

Tarot’s Lesson on Addiction

unknown

I read an interesting article today that suggests the opposite of addiction is not sobriety. It’s connection. Apparently there’s a lot of research to back up this statement. It also makes sense. Emotional trauma and loss are often at the core of addiction.

You can find the article here: http://upliftconnect.com/opposite-addiction-connection/.

Of course, all addictions are not created equal. You can addicted to cigarettes, alcohol or drugs. You can also be addicted to coffee, or in my case, milk for forty years. Some cause more damage than others. But they all cause damage. We all want solutions.

Tarot actually has a lesson to teach about addiction, which goes something like this…

The Tarot of Refusing to Apologise

I’ve been absent from this blog for quite a while. A lot of heavy shizz has been going on in my life for the last few years. That’s just how it is sometimes, for some people. I needed to focus on my personal life, and then I needed time to re-cooperate and re-generate. But now I’m ready to re-emerge back online.

In preparation for this revival I’ve been re-reading my old blog posts and am shocked at how often I apologised for not posting how and when I thought I should. How very female of me. Clearly something has shifted during my absence because I no longer feel the need to apologise anymore. Anything I have to give is a gift.

Carrie Fisher is another woman who learnt the long hard way not to apologise for being who she was. As many of us are currently mourning her loss right now it seems apt to illustrate this topic with one of her more famous quotes.

The Tarot Of Christmas Holidays

As some peeps begin to return to work after the long Christmas-New Year break I thought it might be a good time to explore the Tarot of these holidays.

10 Wands

Ten Of Wands: How we feel before the holidays begin. Over-burdened. Exhausted. Especially at Christmas time when present shopping and school concerts and card sending and work functions are added to the usual load.

The Tarot Of The Walking Dead

I’ve just finished mainlining series two of ‘The Walking Dead’. Seeing as how I can’t get those zombies out of my head I thought we might explore the Tarot of this television show.

The Chariot + Strength Reversed: Dickheads In Cars!

Well, I got tooted long and hard on the road today by some young jerk in a baseball cap. I was at a junction where cars had the option of veering left or continuing ahead. The car in front of me had its left blinker flashing so I stopped to allow it to turn ahead of me. Maybe the blinker was on by mistake because although the driver slowed down to make the turn he didn’t take it. The young jock behind me gave me a good bollocking on his horn instead. Because…that’s what we do in Australia. Not slow down and let people through but honk to tell them to move their $#!! arse.

I file this under The Chariot because it was a situation involving cars (and a young dude) and Strength Reversed for cowardly/impolite behaviour. Bet that bloke wouldn’t have behaved like that if his mum was in the car!

Do drivers behave like this in your country too?
