The Wheel Of Fortune Reversed: Same Old Same Old

The Wheel Of Fortune R

Anyone else get a major whiff of deja` vu this time of year? The same old articles trotted out on avoiding over-indulgence on Christmas Day, the mayhem of Boxing Day sales and advice on how to get a toned bod (it’s summer here in Australia). Seriously. I think newspaper editors just recycle the same stuff every year.

Albert Einstein said that the definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over again and expect different results. Yet every year we trot up to the same faces at Christmas dinner and expect to avoid the arguments we had last time round. We make the same New Year’s resolutions to lose weight, exercise more or give up smoking and expect them to work. Doh!

For me The Wheel Of Fortune Reversed is the card that represents being stuck in a rut. Repeating old patterns. Some peeps are happy to stick with the same old same old. Me, not so much.

How do you keep this time of year fresh and meaningful?

Judgement: How Helping Others Will Save Your Soul

Judgement

Without a doubt Judgement has been one of the hardest Tarot cards for me to crack. When I first started studying Tarot twenty years ago I just didn’t get it at all. Which isn’t surprising really. As the penultimate card in the Life Lessons section of the deck (aka the Major Arcana) it represents an incredibly profound and beautiful human experience. One many never truly embrace.

It’s the card that shows us how to reach The World. Nirvana.

That shows us how to save our souls.

And the secret it tells is this… Continue reading

The Tarot Of Mental Illness Revisited

I promised a lovely lady on my Facebook page ages ago that I’d republish all my medical Tarot blogs. Here’s one I found. Sorry it took so long…

I’ve had way more experience of mental health issues in the last few years than I ever wanted to so I thought it might be time to tackle the Tarot of Mental Illness in more depth. Unsurprisingly the cards involved include those in the last section of Life Lessons Tarot (aka the Major Arcana). Note: These cards might turn up reversed in a reading about mental illness.

The Devil

The Devil: Living in denial. An inability to face reality. Losing yourself in drugs. Denial that you have a mental illness. Continue reading

The Chariot + Strength Reversed: Dickheads In Cars!

Well, I got tooted long and hard on the road today by some young jerk in a baseball cap. I was at a junction where cars had the option of veering left or continuing ahead. The car in front of me had its left blinker flashing so I stopped to allow it to turn ahead of me. Maybe the blinker was on by mistake because although the driver slowed down to make the turn he didn’t take it. The young jock behind me gave me a good bollocking on his horn instead. Because…that’s what we do in Australia. Not slow down and let people through but honk to tell them to move their $#!! arse.

I file this under The Chariot because it was a situation involving cars (and a young dude) and Strength Reversed for cowardly/impolite behaviour. Bet that bloke wouldn’t have behaved like that if his mum was in the car!

Do drivers behave like this in your country too?

Empress Reversed: Food Intolerances

The Empress R

Food intolerance has been the topic du jour for me for the last little while (hmm, if jour means day, how do you say ‘le topic of the month’?) My obsession if you will. Which is what happens when you start losing your hair courtesy of your inability to process everyday foods. And it got me to thinking…which Tarot card would come up in a reading to symbolise food intolerances?

The card that springs to my mind is The Empress. She is drawn as a woman pregnant with child and as such represents, among other things, nourishment. So I guess The Empress Reversed would suggest a lack of nourishment. That’s my call anyway.

Which card/s would you choose?

The Hermit: Mercury Retrograde

The Hermit

It’s Mercury Retrograde right now. The thrice yearly period in which the planet Mercury appears to travel backwards in the sky. According to astrologists it’s a time of year when all hell breaks loose. Technology breaks down, schedules go crazy and any contract you sign will turn out to be chaining you to the devil himself. Peeps go on and on about how badass it is. But like all things it has a positive as well as a negative side. Mercury Retrograde is a great time for reflection. For tuning into your intuition, reviewing where things are at and getting advice. Aka The Hermit card.

The Devil + Two Of Swords: Introverts Don’t Flourish Under Pressure!

So I’m deep in the Year Of The Devil card and feeling the heat baby. Under pressure at work and at home. And I’m finding it difficult to write on this blog (you might have noticed, lol.) The problem is I’m an introvert. A rare species but we do exist. Us introverts need time to ourselves or we become exhausted, unable to perform any but the most basic functions. It’s a fact. A phenomenon. I read this great article today about how introverts write in a different way to extroverts. We can’t just push through, we have to make space in our heads for the words to come. And that’s what I don’t have any of at the moment: head space. Apologies for my slackness but I promise I will write when I can.

Any other introverts out there find it hard to write when they’re tired?

Strength Reversed: Being A Coward

Strength R

It’s one o’clock in the morning here in Australia and I just sprung someone spraying graffiti on the side of my house. A kid in a red jacket. I went out to confront him and he ran away. I didn’t bother giving chase, he could hardly stand up straight, god knows what he’s been inhaling tonight (hmmm, now that I think about it, maybe the fumes???) But seriously, I think that if you’re going to spray graffiti you should at least have the balls to own up to what you’ve done. Maybe he ran because it was rubbish. Another boring tag. Like a dog pissing on a wall. Why can’t I ever get a cool graffiti artist instead?

The Sun: Feeling Reborn

The Sun

I haven’t posted much about The Sun and it’s a wonderful Tarot card. Just look at the image. A smiling free-spirited child rides a horse while a powerful sun shines in the sky. In the background sunflowers grow from the top of a grey wall. The sun is the source of life. The child naked. This card symbolizes feeling reborn, revitalized, more alive than before.

I don’t know about you but I feel better when it’s sunny. It’s easier to forget your cares when soaking up some summer rays. I’ve just returned from a short holiday in the sunshine state of Australia: Queensland. Spending five days walking on the sand, soaking up the sun and leaving my life behind definitely made me feel reinvigorated.

Does a holiday in the sun have that effect on you?
