Wheel Of Fortune: The Ups And Downs Of Blogging

The Wheel Of Fortune

This blog had a record high number of hits the other day. And I hadn’t even posted anything. A grand total of 169 views. Whoo-hoo! A small step for mankind but a big step for me. (I believe in celebrating the little victories.) What entertains me no end about blogging is that success is so random. You never know when a post is going to hit home or fall lamely by the wayside. You just throw your words out into the world and see what sticks. I often get big hits and new subscribers when I’m not writing at all, which is hilarious. There’s no rhyme or reason, it just seems to be luck of the draw. The internet algorithms finding the right person on the right day at the right time.

Do you blog or have a Facebook page? How easy/hard has it been for you?

The World Reversed: For When Your Internet Goes Bung!

The World R

Whoops! I went on holiday to the beach for five days and was accidentally disconnected from the world. The internet connection on the Gold Coast in Australia leaves a lot to be desired. All the enormous concrete buildings here block the signal. But for some reason it’s started to work now on my last night away. Maybe because it’s been gorgeous today and most peeps are still on their way home from the beach. Or could it be that last night’s thunderstorm cleared the air? I’ll never know. But gosh it’s good to be hooked up to the mainframe again.

Temperance: Patron Saint Of Cooking

Temperance

For the past few weeks I’ve been obsessed, OBSESSED, with googling recipes for this crazy new diet I’m on. You could say that I like eating. In my younger days I planned to have written on my tombstone: It was all about the food! I never just want to be healthy, I want to enjoy the road I travel to get there.

If ever there was a patron saint of cooking I figure it would have to be good ol’ Temperance. Look at him mixing things together there in the card. He is the master of fancy cuisine, cocktails and other concoctions. Helps you find a healthy balance. And encourages general well-being. Bless him.

Do you like to cook or eat or both?

The Emperor: Taxes and Audits

The Emperor

Phew! I just finished getting my tax stuff in order. (Note: That’s not the obsession I was talking about in my last post, I’ll get to that.) Am seeing my accountant tomorrow and possibly (definitely) left the paperwork until the last minute. Nobody enjoys doing their taxes. It’s a fact of life. And there’s at least one peep I know who never does them. Ever. Because it’s too hard. He’s one of those hoarder types who collects piles around his house and can never find anything when he needs it. Luckily the government owes him way more than he owes them. I’m not too bad when it comes to keeping track of my paperwork. I might even be a bit of a filing geek (*confession*). But it’s still a chore to do my taxes. That’s why I’m filing them under the Emperor card. He demands self-discipline and hard work. As my luck would have it a letter arrived in the post today telling me I’ve been randomly selected by the teaching body of my state to have my professional practice audited as well. Oh yay, more forms to fill out. Taxes and audits, I’m deep in Emperor territory right now.

How do you handle tax time?

The Hanged Man: Stuck In The Circumlocution Office

The Hanged Man

I spent the better part of this afternoon in a government office trying to get some paperwork sorted out. Talk about feeling like I was stuck in The Hanged Man. The last two times I visited this department I had to wait 2 hours to be seen but I was assured that on this occasion because I had an appointment I wouldn’t have to wait at all (Cue: roaring laughter). I kept going back to the door bitch who controlled proceedings with her iPad to question what was taking so long and was constantly assured I was first priority. But first priority for what, I wondered. Maybe I was first in line in a queue going nowhere. Charles Dickens had a wonderful name for government departments where you go round in circles wrapped up in red tape. He called it the Circumlocution Office.

The Hanged Man is characterised by the following qualities: Waiting (tick.) Feeling outside of time (That would be me and my fellow citizens watching the world go by while we sat in hard chairs for hours on end, tick.) Making sacrifices (That would be the afternoon I took off work, tick.) Letting go of expectations (Yep, I hit that mark after an hour and a half, tick.) Things suddenly clicking into place out of nowhere (That would be me finally seeing someone after I’d given up hope, tick.)

Have you ever been stuck in The Circumlocution Office?

The Tarot Of The Beauty Pageant Winner

I plan a post on the Tarot of The Beauty Pageant Winner and by an amazing coincidence the winner of Miss America is crowned at the same time. I must have been picking up the vibes in the air somehow. More importantly, I finally have a clear enough head to write a post two days in a row, whoo-hoo, now that really is something worth celebrating. Let’s get stuck into it shall we?

Justice+The Tower: The Mid Life Crisis

I was pondering the trifecta today of the Wheel Of Fortune, Justice and Hanged Man cards with a friend. These three cards are found in the middle of Life Lessons Tarot (aka the Major Arcana), the dead-set heavyweight players of the Tarot deck.

We were discussing the ramifications of a big move she made after much consideration to another town when she had Justice as her Tarot-card-of-the-year i.e. Now in her Hanged Man year she’s waiting around trying to get a job and regretting moving at all.

It suddenly struck me Continue reading

The Tarot Of Elections

It’s the day after the election here in Australia and while most peeps are probably nursing a hangover after celebrating the win or the loss I thought I’d have a look at the Tarot Of Elections.
