Magician: The Mentor

The Magician

Why didn’t I think of this before? *Palm smacks forehead* The Magician card can represent a mentor of course. A mentor is someone who inspires you and the Mag is all about being inspired. He’s the ideal. The prototype. He’s Bill Gates and Steve Jobs and Oprah Winfrey and the boss who goes out of his/her way to encourage you in the workplace. He’s the kindly scout master or girl guide leader. The older friend who teachers you how to surf or sew or be kind. That’s why we love The Magician so much.

Who are the magician figures in your life?

The Many Faces Of The Moon

The Moon

This month’s full moon goes by many names.

Technically, it’s a Blue Moon i.e. The third full moon in a four-full-moon season, whatever that means. Blue Moons really don’t come round that often. The next one isn’t until 2015.

Some Native Americans call it the Full Sturgeon Moon. The large fish called sturgeon are most easily caught at this time of year. Others call it the Full Red Moon because the weather conditions in this season can make the moon look reddish when it rises. Yet others, the Green Corn Moon or the Grain Moon, because crops grow tall at this time of year.

I’m sure there are many more monikers for it in other parts of the world. But whatever you want to call it, I highly recommend going outside and having a look because right now it’s beautiful in any language.

Seven Of Wands: Aaaaaaaaaah! Technology!

7 Wands

Don’t you hate it when it’s late and you’re tired and you just need to print off a couple of things for work tomorrow but the $#!@ printer refuses to work. That happened to me tonight. Lights were flashing on the bleeping machine but I couldn’t work out what they meant. The printer might as well have been speaking an alien language. The instruction booklet was written in Mandarin so that was useless. But the thing was I really really really needed to print off those pages.

There’s nothing for it when technology goes on the blink but to work through the problem as logically and calmly as you can. And never ever ever give up. Because hacking into the printer with an axe is never going to solve the situation (although it’s tempting to do it anyway.) Dealing with technology is very much a Seven Of Wands situation. You just have to keep battling on until you find the answer. Thank God for Google that’s all I can say.

Does technology ever push you over the edge?

The Empress’s Love Affair With Chocolate!

The Empress

I don’t keep chocolate in the house. It’s too much temptation. I’m one of those people who just can’t stop eating it once I start. But unfortunately I have daughters who like to hoard the darn stuff in the kitchen cupboard. Right in my eyeline. Most of the time I can resist but every now and then I crack. And tonight was one of those nights. I mean seriously, who can ignore the siren call of Lindt’s Crunchy Caramel when they’ve been looking at it for over a month? It was a case of my inner Empress (indulgence) winning out over my inner Emperor (self-discipline).

The Empress has an ongoing love affair with chocolate. What about you?

Ten Of Swords: Nothing In the Tank

10 Swords

Haven’t written on this blog for a few days and figured I should say something but nope, I got nothing in the tank. We’re halfway through the school term and my brain is beginning to melt from processing the million things I need to remember to do my job well, my youngest daughter just had her birthday and made her deb, my eldest has needed help keeping track of some medical appointments, I’ve been chatting to someone on an online dating site (as you do when you’re single, nah, actually, it’s really rare for me, but why not?) and I’ve been trying to manage some minor renovations, not to mention get rid of those $#*!? rats in the roof. Sigh. I’m mentally fried.

Anyone else out there know that feeling?

Tarot: It’s Not About Being A Spiritual Human Being It’s About Being A Decent Human Being!

Spiritual practice will not eliminate negative emotions. Emotions are part of the palette of life, part of the way consciousness moves. Not only can’t you get rid of them, but you’d feel empty and impoverished if you did. Practice can change your relationship to emotions, so that instead of being swamped by certain feeling states, you can hold them, contain them, see into their essence, and ultimately, use emotions in the service of your liberation.

Sally Kempton (http://www.ievolve.org/free-feeling-using-emotions-for-liberation/)

I read this on Mystic Medusa’s blog today and immediately thought: Hells to the yeah! Too many peeps confuse being a spiritual person with being a good person. Imo they are not the same thing and you can see this clearly in Life Lessons Tarot (aka the Major Arcana).

You can be interested in spirituality as represented by this card… Continue reading

Nine Of Cups: The Smug Bastard

9 CupsWe had a look at this card for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Let’s review what was said:

Nine Of Cups: A well-fed well-dressed middle-aged man sits in front of nine golden cups arranged in an orderly fashion on a fancy tablecloth. His face wears an expression of satisfaction and his arms are crossed as if to say, ‘Don’t touch. They’re mine.’ Here is someone who’s satisfied with their lot and doesn’t want to change a thing. This is the wishes-come-true card. The accomplishment of one’s deepest desires. Partner, job, children, house…all sorted. This is the cat who’s got the cream.

But it can also be the card of the smug bastard. Someone who’s so content with their lot they refuse to change a thing even when they need to. Even when it makes others unhappy.

Do you have any smug bastards in your life?
