The Fool. Patron saint of all new enterprises. Publishing your first post on a blog. Starting at a new school. Getting ready to jump out of a plane. Psyching yourself up to ask a question or make a comment at a meeting. Feeling your dad let go of your bike after you’ve just given up your training wheels. Pulling out a credit card to place an order for a set of window shutters to the tune of $2000 (that was me yesterday and hell yeah it was scary, that’s a looooot of money).

But these things are exciting too, yeah?

The Eight Of Pentacles. A boy hammers away at a task, doing the same thing over and over again. Presumably getting better each time round. This is the apprentice card of the Tarot. The card of carpenters. electricians and plumbers as they learn their trade. The card of writers struggling in their garrets to get that first novel up to scratch (or maybe just on the lounge in front of the heater?) It’s the celebrities on Celebrity Apprentice completing tasks to raise money for charity, hoping they won’t get fired by Donald Trump at the end of the day. Total focus. Working hard. Paying your dues. With the promise that it will all be worth it in the end.

Justice Reversed: Taking Advantage Of The System

I received a depressing letter from my local council today. A developer whose housing plans for my suburb have been rejected umpteen times is appealing yet again to the state umpire. Each time the developer appeals the plans are changed to the minutest degree. But each time they appeal their opposition grows weaker. The enemy has deep pockets. They can afford to pay lawyers to write letters and stand up in court for them for years. While their opposition, made up of local families with ordinary jobs, runs out of money and steam. Yet we are the ones who actually live in the place. We are the ones who will be affected. But that’s the way the system works. It’s not a question of justice. The winners are the ones who can keep punching in court the longest. Who can take advantage of a justice system in which you seem to have an endless right to appeal. And where is the real justice in that?

Wow! A sign just came up saying that the last post I did was my 250th on this blog. That seems quite an achievement. If there was a Tarot card that showed a bottle of champagne being popped and fireworks going off I’d use that to illustrate this news but as there’s not I’ll settle for the Ace Of Pentacles instead. The Empress card is about nurturing and the opposite of nurturing is neglect. So it figures that neglect would be one of the meanings of The Empress Reversed. I feel like I’ve been neglecting you dear Teaclubbers by not writing more often on this blog. Yes, it’s easier for me to write posts in one hit. But this blog isn’t just about me. One of the things I’ve learnt about writing in the last year is that you need to write to suit your audience. Not yourself. So I’m going to try to blog more often. Maybe do shorter hits. At 20 you have your whole life ahead of you and 30 still seems full of possibilities no matter how much you’ve stuffed things up so far. The World: Being In ‘The Zone’

…And I’m back. I dropped off the radar for a couple of weeks there. Shit happens. Sometimes it’s just plain everyday stuff keeping me from this blog. I read on a writer’s blog recently that you shouldn’t use your family and friends as an excuse not to write but I call b-s- on that. Relationships come first as far as I’m concerned. If peeps need me I’ll be there. Anyway, as I discussed recently I feel like I write better when my head is clear. And it doesn’t kill me as much. I don’t know how it works for other writers but for me it takes a lot of energy to enter the writing ‘zone’. Its much easier for me to write when I’m rested than try to get to that place after a long day at work.

The World is the Tarot card that represents being ‘in the zone’ whether you are writing, painting, running a business, parenting or surfing. It’s that place you get to after a lot of effort where everything flows easily. It’s the ultimate Tarot/life experience.
