Five Of Cups: For When Christmas Is The Saddest Time Of Year

5 Cups

I just wanted to give a shout out to all those peeps who are struggling during this festive season. When there’s someone missing at your dining table or when the holidays leave you feeling bereft and alone Christmas can be the saddest time of year. It’s especially hard when someone you love has died near Christmas. The two events can become entwined in your mind. And if you’re struggling with mental health issues forced family celebrations combined with a lack of support and structure (because even your carers are on holidays) can make it hard for you to cope.

The Five Of Cups card reminds us that no matter what or who we’ve lost (the three spilled cups in front), we still have love in our life, if only we’ll turn around and look (the two upright cups behind). It’s a great card to meditate on if this time of year is hard for you.

The Tarot Of Mental Illness Revisited

I promised a lovely lady on my Facebook page ages ago that I’d republish all my medical Tarot blogs. Here’s one I found. Sorry it took so long…

I’ve had way more experience of mental health issues in the last few years than I ever wanted to so I thought it might be time to tackle the Tarot of Mental Illness in more depth. Unsurprisingly the cards involved include those in the last section of Life Lessons Tarot (aka the Major Arcana). Note: These cards might turn up reversed in a reading about mental illness.

The Devil

The Devil: Living in denial. An inability to face reality. Losing yourself in drugs. Denial that you have a mental illness. Continue reading

Two Of Cups Reversed: The Break Up!

2 Cups R

Sad to read today that supermodel Miranda Kerr and movie star Orlando Bloom have separated. They seemed like such a nice young couple. And of course, they have a child together. A break up is never fun. No matter how decent the peeps involved, it hurts and it’s hard. You have to unwind all the links that have bound you together.

I’m pegging the Two Of Cups Reversed as the break up card in Tarot. Continue reading

The Tarot Of The Beauty Pageant Winner

I plan a post on the Tarot of The Beauty Pageant Winner and by an amazing coincidence the winner of Miss America is crowned at the same time. I must have been picking up the vibes in the air somehow. More importantly, I finally have a clear enough head to write a post two days in a row, whoo-hoo, now that really is something worth celebrating. Let’s get stuck into it shall we?

Six Of Cups: A Walk Down Memory Lane

6 Cups

The scene portrayed in this card looks kind of unreal. Like a dream. There’s all those golden colours for a start. And the lead characters are unusual. Can you see how small they look compared to the cups? And what is that funny hat the boy is wearing? They put me in mind of the Little People of myth and legend. Either that or they’re children. The castle guard and thatched cottage in the background only adds to the whole fairytale feel. This card whisks you back to the past, back to childhood.

Nine Of Cups: The Smug Bastard

9 CupsWe had a look at this card for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Let’s review what was said:

Nine Of Cups: A well-fed well-dressed middle-aged man sits in front of nine golden cups arranged in an orderly fashion on a fancy tablecloth. His face wears an expression of satisfaction and his arms are crossed as if to say, ‘Don’t touch. They’re mine.’ Here is someone who’s satisfied with their lot and doesn’t want to change a thing. This is the wishes-come-true card. The accomplishment of one’s deepest desires. Partner, job, children, house…all sorted. This is the cat who’s got the cream.

But it can also be the card of the smug bastard. Someone who’s so content with their lot they refuse to change a thing even when they need to. Even when it makes others unhappy.

Do you have any smug bastards in your life?

Ten Of Cups: Happy Families

10 Cups

Ten Of Cups: A man and woman wrap their arms around one another while children cavort happily at their feet. In the distance you can see a well-appointed home. The grass is green, water flows through the meadow and a rainbow in the sky promises a pot of gold.

This is the ultimate cups card. Cups are about feelings and you can feel the love oozing out of this picture. The Ten Of Cups represents a happy family, in whatever form it may take. Maybe it’s your immediate family or your work family or the family you’ve made with friends. Whatever type of family it may be, it’s a blessing in your life.

I feel the love in my classroom everyday, my grade is a happy family (ya know, most of the time.) Do you have a Ten Of Cups style family you are part of? Please share…

Sunday Spotlight – Nine Of Cups: The Cat Who’s Got The Cream

9 Cups

Shame, shame on me. I’ve been writing this blog for almost a year and you’d think I’d have covered all the cards in the deck by now but I haven’t mentioned this one once.
