Happy New Year 2017

There’s a numerological formula you can use to work out your Tarot Card of the Year. This card represents the type of experiences you can expect to have during that year. I’ve been using the formula for so long I can’t remember where I learnt this trick, but I find it quite reliable.

The formula gives you a number that correlates with one of the Life Lesson aka Major Arcana cards. Because of the way it works each following year you shift into the subsequent Life Lesson card e.g. If your Tarot Year Card in 2016 was The Empress, in 2017 it will be The Emperor. However, at the turn of each decade or century, you will be sent to a different part of the Major Arcana, and begin a new cycle.

The formula is this: Continue reading

The Tarot Of Mental Illness Revisited

I promised a lovely lady on my Facebook page ages ago that I’d republish all my medical Tarot blogs. Here’s one I found. Sorry it took so long…

I’ve had way more experience of mental health issues in the last few years than I ever wanted to so I thought it might be time to tackle the Tarot of Mental Illness in more depth. Unsurprisingly the cards involved include those in the last section of Life Lessons Tarot (aka the Major Arcana). Note: These cards might turn up reversed in a reading about mental illness.

The Devil

The Devil: Living in denial. An inability to face reality. Losing yourself in drugs. Denial that you have a mental illness. Continue reading

The Sun: Feeling Reborn

The Sun

I haven’t posted much about The Sun and it’s a wonderful Tarot card. Just look at the image. A smiling free-spirited child rides a horse while a powerful sun shines in the sky. In the background sunflowers grow from the top of a grey wall. The sun is the source of life. The child naked. This card symbolizes feeling reborn, revitalized, more alive than before.

I don’t know about you but I feel better when it’s sunny. It’s easier to forget your cares when soaking up some summer rays. I’ve just returned from a short holiday in the sunshine state of Australia: Queensland. Spending five days walking on the sand, soaking up the sun and leaving my life behind definitely made me feel reinvigorated.

Does a holiday in the sun have that effect on you?

Tarot: It’s Not About Being A Spiritual Human Being It’s About Being A Decent Human Being!

Spiritual practice will not eliminate negative emotions. Emotions are part of the palette of life, part of the way consciousness moves. Not only can’t you get rid of them, but you’d feel empty and impoverished if you did. Practice can change your relationship to emotions, so that instead of being swamped by certain feeling states, you can hold them, contain them, see into their essence, and ultimately, use emotions in the service of your liberation.

I read this on Mystic Medusa’s blog today and immediately thought: Hells to the yeah! Too many peeps confuse being a spiritual person with being a good person. Imo they are not the same thing and you can see this clearly in Life Lessons Tarot (aka the Major Arcana).

You can be interested in spirituality as represented by this card… Continue reading

Tarot’s Holy Trinity

Following on from yesterday’s post about The Sun I thought I’d sum up the three core beliefs in Life Lessons Tarot (aka the Major Arcana). I call them Tarot’s Holy Trinity. They illustrate why I find Tarot to be such a beautiful and profound (not to mention useful) philosophy.

The Sun: Know Thyself. Be Thyself.

I describe Tarot as a do-it-yourself-know-thyself-kit. Forget fortune telling with the cards. As fun as that can be when fate looks golden, it can be a real ball-and-chain dragging you down when the cards are dark. Instead, I recommend using Tarot to get to know yourself better. To find out, as the Spice Girls sang, ‘What you want, what you really really want.’ To acknowledge your strengths and work on your weaknesses. To become who you are deep inside.

Life Lesson Tarot (aka the Major Arcana) spells out this journey in detail. And you know you’ve finally been successful at becoming a realer version of yourself when you pull this card out of the pack… Continue reading
