Shame. Shame. I feel like I’ve neglected the Wands cards on this blog a bit. I’m more of a Swords and Cups kinda gal. But here in my Sunday Spotlight column I have a chance to redress the balance. And we’re going to start by looking at this card:
Empress + The Chariot: Car Grooming. It’s A Thing Right?
As I was plucking hairs out of my chin in my car the other day (Too much information? Ah middle age, it’s sooo much fun) it occurred to me that right across the city there were probably hundreds if not thousands of women doing exactly the same thing while their cars were idling at stoplights: Applying eyeshadow or lipstick, checking their make-up in the mirror, maybe brushing their hair. And it’s not only women grooming themselves on the go. Men have been getting in on the act too. I’ve heard of people doing all sorts of things in their cars on the way to work: Eating bowls of cereal, even shaving (not sure how???) And of course when people aren’t grooming themselves they’re talking on the phone or texting. Cars are so comfy these days it’s easy to forget you’re driving a potentially dangerous machine especially in gridlocked traffic. And multi-tasking in the car saves time at either end of the drive.
I’m filing this phenomenon under two cards. The Empress because she likes to look her best and is quite body focused. The Chariot because not only am I talking about an activity taking place inside a car (i.e. a metal chariot) but it’s also an activity done to improve your chances of social success.
Do you groom yourself in the car? Come on. ‘Fess up.
Funtime Friday: Dancing Nana
Yes. Another day, another theme. I’ve decided to dedicate Fridays to posts that are light-hearted. To send us all into the weekend in a happy mood. Yesterday I introduced Throwback Thursday, today it’s Funtime Friday and in a few days it’ll be Spotlight Sunday in which I’ll focus on a card that hasn’t been getting a lot of attention. Just trying out some new ideas for this blog as suggested in The Temperance post earlier this week.
Today I present to you…Dancing Nana. The story goes like this:
Each week a young woman picks up her 88-year-old grandmother and takes her out for a meal. While the granddaughter waits for nana to come out of her house she switches her iPod’s playlist to ‘Golden Oldies’ and winds down the car windows. And then Nana boogies and shakes her way down to the car. The joy on her face whilst dancing is infectious. I hope I have as much joie de vivre as she does when I’m 88.
This puts me in mind of this Tarot card… Continue reading
Throwback Thursday: The Holy Book Of Tarot
I’ve decided to dedicate Thursdays to re-running old posts. Maybe mashed up together or with new information thrown in. Because there are some Tarot stories that deserve to be retold. Because I want to refocus on central themes from time to time. Today is one of those occasions.
One of the reasons I love Tarot cards so much is that they’re deeply meaningful. In particular the group of cards commonly known as The Major Arcana. I refer to them as Life Lessons Tarot because together they read like a book about the core life experiences of a human being. For me this is Tarot’s Holy Book. I’ve divided it up into three volumes and a prologue.
Prologue: Continue reading
The Hierophant: Pontif-icating
The historic conclave to choose the next Catholic Pope began in earnest yesterday. So far only black smoke has risen from the Sistine Chapel chimney signalling that the 115 cardinals inside have yet to agree on who shall be leader of the billion-strong congregation. The world awaits their decision in suspense outside the chapel doors.
Traditionally the Pope is represented by this card in Tarot…
Justice vs Temperance: Weighing Your Options vs Finding Balance
For a long time I struggled to understand the difference between the cards of Justice and Temperance. The former has a picture of scales whilst the latter is about finding balance. The themes seem same same. But there is a difference. For what it’s worth here’s my take on the subject.
Justice: In this card Continue reading
Temperance: Tweaking Your Presence Online
So. I entered the wonderful world of blogging about six months ago. Knowing nothing. I’m not one of the younger generation brought up with the world at their fingertips. But google was my friend.
I started out on Continue reading
The Tarot Of Being A Writer
I’ve been writing novels in my leisure time for years. Haven’t finished any yet but here are some things I’ve learned along the way…
It takes two things to be a writer:
The Emperor Reversed: I Don’t Want To!
There are times when being an adult seems vastly overrated. Whilst my daughters swan around with their friends and lie prostrate in bed playing video games for hours on end I’m the bunny who has to make sure all the washing, shopping, cooking, gardening etc gets done. Meanwhile they think that if they hang one load of washing a day they’ve been some kind of hero and roll their eyes at further requests for assistance. You know what. I don’t wanna do all that boring stuff either. But someone has to.
The Emperor is the one who Continue reading
Two Of Cups: When You Never Want The Conversation To End
The reason I didn’t post last night is because I went out for dinner at 7pm and didn’t get home till 2. Seriously unusual for moi. When it comes to leisure time my preference is always to lie around on the couch reading and writing. Maybe it was the coffee I drank at 10 o’clock that kept me going – I don’t usually touch the stuff – but I don’t think so.
