About tanlee3

Hi! I'm a teacher and writer who's been using Tarot cards for years as a source of advice. I'm not a big fan of fortune telling. Am way more interested in helping people use the cards for themselves. To that end I have started this blog to encourage discussion about what each card means and to educate those who may never have come into contact with Tarot about it's amazing potential to help guide you on your path through life. Also, just for fun.

Throwback Thursday: The Holy Book of Tarot – Adulthood

I’ve written before about how Tarot contains a holy book that charts the journey of a human soul through all the stages and experiences of life. I call these cards Life Lessons Tarot, although they’re better known as the Major Arcana.

These lessons are divided into three parts.

Last week, we revisited the first part: Childhood.

The second volume covers key experiences in adulthood.

Saturday Night Fight Club: Six of Swords vs Eight of Cups

You learn a lot about Tarot cards when you compare them with one another. Especially those that are similar. The six of swords and the eight of cups both deal with moving on. So what’s the difference between them?

A key to this is in their suit. One is swords and the other is cups. Swords are about thoughts. Cups are about emotions.

Let’s look at them more closely…

Monday Musings: What does Tarot say about shame?

Shame would have to be the most corrosive emotion.

The most crippling.

It can keep you trapped in self-recrimination and low self-esteem for decades.

You can see shame at work in the image above. It’s a feeling of fingers pointing derisively at you, whether they really are or not. Once this emotion has been implanted inside you, there’s no need for others to make you feel bad, you beat yourself up with your own inner voice.

So which Tarot card is this feeling related to?

This one, of course…

The Tarot of a Music Festival

I recently attended a music festival in my home state of Victoria, Australia.

Not something I do all the time but it reminded me that I should, because you get to experience this card in abundance…

Sunday Spotlight: Four of Pentacles

Sometimes the images in the Smith Waite deck can give cards a bad rap.

The Four of Pentacles is a great example of this.

The dude in the picture looks like he’s clutching his money too tight. Like he’s possessive. Miserly. Reminiscent of Scrooge in The Christmas Carol.

He wants to own.

He wants to control.

He wants to prevent others from touching these gifts as well.

But it’s important to remember that every Tarot card has a positive, as well as a negative, implication.

The Four of Pentacles can also indicate the need to hold onto what you have. Or that you’ve made material gains that you deserve to take credit for!

Don’t assume just because the picture on a card looks ‘bad’ that its meaning should be taken this way. Smith and Waite would have had their own subconscious biases when designing them.

Would you agree?
