Throwback Thursday – Tarot: Your Agony Aunt In A Box
I wrote this post almost a year ago but felt it was time to run it again. It really sums up how I use Tarot cards myself…
Tarot’s Holy Trinity
Following on from yesterday’s post about The Sun I thought I’d sum up the three core beliefs in Life Lessons Tarot (aka the Major Arcana). I call them Tarot’s Holy Trinity. They illustrate why I find Tarot to be such a beautiful and profound (not to mention useful) philosophy.
Thursday Throwback: Tarot Card Readings
In the comments recently someone asked how to read Tarot cards so I thought maybe it was time to review the different types of Tarot card readings we have looked at on this blog so far…
The One Card Reading – For Beginners
There are a lot of ‘official’ Tarot card spreads you can use but you don’t need anything fancy the first time you do a reading. Just ask yourself a question, shuffle the cards and when you feel ready pull one from the pack.
In order to understand the card’s message you can: Continue reading
The Storyteller’s Tarot
You’ve probably worked out by now that I’m waay more interested in Tarot cards for the stories they tell than their psychic powers. I feel like we focus too much on the latter at the expense of the former. Tarot is an incredibly beautiful and profound gift from some unknown group of ancestors. Full of wisdom and wit like my literary hero Shakespeare.
I’m not talking here about using Tarot cards Continue reading
Tarot, Psychics And Intuitive Intelligence
I consider myself a writer rather than a psychic. Sure I’ve been using Tarot cards for years but mostly I just do readings for myself. Use the Tarot like an Agony Aunt In A Box to broaden my perspective on what’s happening in my life. I’m more interested in Continue reading
A Rose By Any Other Tag Line Would Smell As Sweet!
I’ve popped home from my bush camp for the night to pick up tent supplies and sit out the gale force winds in the comfort of my own home. With a cup of tea in hand of course. Thought I’d change the tag line of this blog while I was at it.
You never know how a blog’s going to turn out when you start one. In the beginning I imagined a whole lot of people on here sharing their ideas about the meaning of Tarot cards. Instead it’s turned into a daily rant by yours truly about the Tarot of some aspect of popular culture or everyday life (usually my own because there’s nothing like laying yourself bare for your art, gulp.)
So I thought I should make my tag line a better fit for the type of blog I’ve ended up creating. Let me know if you think it sounds right or not. Maybe you have a better suggestion? I do like to hear from you. Just because I took the word ‘share’ out doesn’t mean I don’t want you to share anymore. I do. Anytime!
Cheers, tan.
The Tarot Cards That You Forget!
It’s always interesting to note the Tarot cards you focus on and the ones you don’t. There are some cards that have come up in my posts again and again. And there are others I’ve ignored completely. Including:
Ace of Wands. Ace of Swords. Ace of Pentacles.
All the Page cards.
Knight of Cups. Knight of Wands. Knight of Pentacles.
Three of Pentacles. Six of Swords. Seven of Cups. Seven of Wands.
Justice.
It’s not that they’re unimportant. One of them, Justice, is a Life Lessons (Major Arcana) card. So why haven’t I mentioned them? Maybe because they represent energies that aren’t active in my life right now. Or maybe because I don’t fully understand them yet.
Court cards are complicated so that’s why I’ve been reluctant to tackle the pages and the knights. Whereas I’ve been struggling with a new understanding of the Ace cards and am waiting until my thoughts are coherent enough for me to put my idea into words. The seven cards have also been under my radar. Again, I’m still coming to grips with the meaning of the number 7 in Tarot.
I’ll try and cover these cards in my posts over the next few weeks because every card is important.
Can you think of any other reason you can be blind to particular Tarot cards?
Your Personal Tarot Card For 2013
I’ve written about Tarot Year Cards before but thought it might be a good idea to review this topic at the start of a new year so you can have a go at working out your personal Tarot card for 2013.
There’s a numerological formula you can use to work out which Tarot card represents the type of experiences you can expect to have during each year. I’ve been using it for so long I can’t remember anymore where I learnt this trick but I find it quite reliable.
The formula will give you a number that correlates with one of the Life Lesson (Major Arcana) cards. Because of the way it works each following year you will shift into the subsequent Life Lesson card e.g. If your Tarot Year Card in 2012 was The Empress, in 2013 it will be The Emperor.
The formula is this: Continue reading
Can You Change Your Tarot Future?
I do a special Tarot card spread on my birthday each year. It gives me three Tarot cards to represent each month of the following year and three to represent my year as a whole. I don’t particularly like knowing my future (because it can look depressing) but I usually can’t resist having a peek and I find it a great way to deepen my understanding of the cards.
The three cards I got for this month are as follows:
Two Of Swords: The ‘leave me the hell alone’ card.
Check.
I often get over-stimulated and overwhelmed at this crazy time of year and feel the need to stay at home for long spells of what I call ‘dark cupboard time’.
The Empress. A lady of leisure and pleasure.
Double check.
As you know I spent a ridiculous amount of money updating my DVD collection on the weekend without bothering to see if I could actually afford it (doh!) I’ve booked a full body massage for later this week. Something I always want but rarely do. Not to mention I’m spending a great deal of my time at the moment lolling around on my bed reading novels. And I thought I wasn’t in touch with my inner Empress, ha!
But here’s where we come a cropper…
Eight of Swords: Over-thinking something. Feeling trapped, powerless, under pressure to hold your tongue, anxious about your next step. A victim. Unable to see a way forward.
Um, no.
Even though it’s now confirmed that I have to move into a new position at my workplace next year I don’t feel scared about that. I would have last year. Maybe even six months ago. But now I feel more like this…
The Fool: Open to the possibility it could be a good move for me.
So what I’m wondering is: Can you change your Tarot future? (Or is the Eight of Swords going to rear it’s ugly head in a different way over the next couple of weeks?) I guess I believe that you can. That we have free will and the potential to change our destinies no matter what the cards say. And I think the further Tarot tries to predict into the future the less reliable it gets.
But what do you think? Especially those of you with experience of the cards. Please share.
