Sunday Spotlight: The Lovers

Ah, The Lovers card.

Who wouldn’t be excited to see this turn up in a spread?

We all love love.

Here we have an image of a naked man and woman. The epitome of sexy times. Romance. Intimacy.

This card’s energy is activated in adolescence. The first stabs of puppy love are its calling card. The trial and error of this period in our lives, as we explore different experiences, legal or otherwise, are its canvas.

But there’s a mismatch in the picture above. Whilst the man gazes adoringly at the woman, she’s not looking at him in return but fixated on an angel in the heavens above. Puts me in mind of that old saying: Men love women, women love children, and children love dogs.

There’s a subtle message beneath this image.

We each get to choose what we focus on.

Who we spend time with.

Who we choose to be in relationship with.

What to do with our lives.

Which temptations to succumb to and which to resist.

Just as Adam got to choose whether or not to eat that wicked apple in the Garden of Eden. Eve didn’t force it down his throat. Nor did the snake winding around the limbs of the tree.

The lesson in this card says that love is a choice, not a pre-determined fate.

Would you agree or disagree with that?

Monday Musings: Turning Back Time

We all have those moments where we want to undo something.

Delete that sent email.

Rewind that conversation.

Reconnect with a lost friend.

Or a previous version of ourselves.

Do you think the desire to turn back time would be captured by this Tarot card…?

Sunday Spotlight: The Devil

The Devil card came to mind as I lay in bed this morning.

And lay.

And lay.

Felt apt.

Some would consider laziness a devil quality.

I was pondering how darkness can illuminate. How there is a richness to the dark as if it’s full of squirming creatures invisible to the human eye. How thoughts can wander to new possibilities in this fecund womb.

Which brought me to The Devil card.

The black background on this card doesn’t indicate that darkness is inherently ‘evil’.

It’s a reflection of the ‘evil’ inherent in not exploring beyond the known. Not opening yourself up to new possibilities in life. Evil reversed spells ‘live’.

Yes, The Devil card can indicate that you are chained to others in some way. Through apprenticeships, or worse, damaging psychic relationships, such as domestic abuse or slavery.

But deeper than that, The Devil card indicates that we are willingly keeping ourselves enslaved.

Those chains are loose. They could be lifted off.

We can chain ourselves to people and situations because we want to learn from them.

But we can also chain ourselves to people and situations because we are too scared to look beyond them. Unwilling to leave our comfort zones.

The torch light is pointed downwards.

We don’t want to know!

Can you identify any of these sorts of Devil situations operating in your life?

Throwback Thursday: Your 2025 Tarot Card

We’re at the beginning of a new year, full of excitement and possibility, like The Fool card.

There’s a numerological formula you can use to work out your Tarot Card for 2025. This card represents the type of experiences you can expect to have this year. I’ve been using the formula for so long I can’t remember where I learnt this trick, but I find it reliable.

The formula gives you a number that correlates with one of the Life Lesson aka Major Arcana cards. Because of the way it works, each following year you shift into the subsequent Life Lesson card e.g. If your Tarot Year Card in 2024 was The Empress, in 2025 it will be The Emperor.

The formula is this:

Knight of Swords: F**k the journey

Gee, the Knight of Swords gets a bad rap.

It’s a design issue with this deck.

There are good sides to this card.

Usually, I’d use the reversed image for a negative meaning. But not today. Not when the expression on the knight’s face is so apt.

He’s pissed.

Things aren’t going to plan.

He was meant to have reached his destination years ago.

Or rather, she. Because I’m talking about myself.

I keep getting side-tracked on my Tarot journey. Putting my fingers in other pies. I’m an easily distracted Gemini. Ooh, look, new shiny glittery thing over there. Let’s go explore that!

But it’s a new year and here I am, back on my blog again.

I always circle back, which is this card…

I used to hate the saying: It’s not the destination, it’s the journey.

F**k the journey!

I’m a multiple air sign, eager to reach the end. I check the last pages of books before deciding whether to read them. Impatience is my achilles heel.

So naturally, everything has evolved slowly in my life.

And I’ve learnt to love the journey.

Its highways and byways.

To accept that I will get to the destination at the right moment.

A new year feels like a good time to be reminded of this lesson. We’ll hit our goals when we’re ready to hit them.

Have you set any goals for this new year?

Nudging

unknown

A nudge is a little push. Animals nudge their young to steer them in the right direction. And now behavioural scientists are suggesting parents use this strategy as well, to steer their young in the right direction.

Kids definitely don’t seem to respond to this strategy… Continue reading

The Devil: Learning To Submit!

The Devil

Well here I am in whoop whoop and of course the Internet is patchy. I can’t use my laptop as I usually do so am typing this on my iPhone. And because I’m an idiot I haven’t loaded any Tarot card photos onto my phone so I won’t be able to add the pictures till I get back home. And because typing on my iPhone is soooo annoying my posts won’t be too long.

But I’m going with what I’ve got and not sweating on some perfect ideal of how these posts should be. Because today a word came into my head. Continue reading

The Star: Sheltering From The Storm

I’d like to clarify something I said yesterday. I suggested that The Star could signify someone leaving their husband or wife. That’s not quite right. It’s more the period straight after you’ve left them. Let me explain.

The Star card is part of Life Lessons Tarot, the incredibly profound inner book which traces the significant experiences we all have as human beings. It comes after The Tower card and before The Moon as follows:

The Tower is Continue reading
