The Tarot Of Mental Illness

I promised a lovely lady on my Facebook page ages ago that I’d republish all my medical Tarot blogs. Here’s one I found. Sorry it took so long…

I’ve had way more experience of mental health issues in the last few years than I ever wanted to so I thought it might be time to tackle the Tarot of Mental Illness in more depth. Unsurprisingly the cards involved include those in the last section of Life Lessons Tarot (aka the Major Arcana). Note: These cards might turn up reversed in a reading about mental illness.

The Tarot Of Game Of Thrones Season One

So I made the fatal mistake of letting a boy in my local video shop (yes, some of us still hire them instead of downloading them off the internet) talk me into renting the first few episodes of the TV series ‘Game Of Thrones’. Now of course I’m hooked. Hooked and repulsed in equal measure because Lord Of The Rings it is not. The good guys don’t necessarily win. Justice doesn’t prevail.

But I’m enjoying the characters. The women are unexpectedly diverse and well-rounded. And even though I haven’t quite got to the end of season one I thought it would be fun to explore the Tarot of the leads.

The Tarot Of Processing Stuff

I’ve always thought that the Eight Of Pentacles represented processing stuff but then yesterday I felt very clear that I should use the Knight Of Swords Reversed to indicate my mental processing has slowed down. So today I thought I’d investigate the Tarot of processing stuff starting with this card…

Funtime Friday: When Clean Means Dirty And A Bus Stop Dancing Queen

I’ve posted a couple of smile-inducing video clips to my Facebook page tonight including…

7 Swords

A fake ad made by the famous film-making Coen brothers to promote clean coal. The black clouds of smoke coming out of the clean coal spray cans gives the lie to the use of the adjective ‘clean’ in conjunction with ‘coal’. I’m filing this under the Seven Of Swords: Being sneaky. Trying to get away with something.

You can find this clip at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFJVbdiMgfM&feature=share.

A woman dancing surreptitiously at a bus stop. I’m filing this under the following two cards:

Strength Reversed: Lacking confidence

The World: Being in the moment.

Mind you, I wouldn’t be brave enough to dance at all in public so good on her!

Have a GREAT weekend everyone!!!

Five Of Swords + Seven Of Swords: Putting The Me In Mean Girls

Five Of Swords: Being mean + Seven Of Swords: Sneaking around behind other’s backs

I have a terrible confession to make. A shameful confession. It’s bad. And it’s this. Continue reading

The Tarot Of Being A Writer

I’ve been writing novels in my leisure time for years. Haven’t finished any yet but here are some things I’ve learned along the way…

It takes two things to be a writer:

Nine Of Swords: The Princess And The Pea Syndrome

9 Swords

I had a meeting with a parent after school today to discuss her child’s progress as there is an underlying issue that concerns us both. Unfortunately we weren’t able to come up with a solution on the spot. And all night long no matter what else I’ve been doing this problem has been turning over at the back of my mind. Like a dog with a bone I just can’t let it go. Because I want to do a good job as a teacher but its hard when you’re inexperienced. Because I care about my students. Take my responsibility for them seriously.

I call this Continue reading

Six Of Swords: Changing Your Thinking???

6 Swords

I find the six and seven cards in Everyday Tarot (aka the Minor Arcana) the hardest to get a grip on. The lower numbered cards represent simple versions of each suit, the higher numbered cards complex versions but the 6s & 7s are the turning of the tide and like middle children can be overlooked and misunderstood. By me at least.

I used to get Continue reading
