The Tarot Of The Walking Dead

I’ve just finished mainlining series two of ‘The Walking Dead’. Seeing as how I can’t get those zombies out of my head I thought we might explore the Tarot of this television show.

Seven Of Wands: Stand Up And Be Heard!

7 Wands

Love this. I did a Tarot reading online today and got the Seven Of Wands. It said: Clear communication is vital. Stand up and be heard.

That message fits in so well with this card. Look at the man with the wand in his hand battling away there. He’s trying to say something. Trying to be heard amongst the rabble.  You can see that he’s facing a great deal of opposition. It’s never easy to get your message across when it differs from what others say or believe. But wands cards demand you be brave.

If you get the Seven Of Wands in a reading it could be a sign that you need to speak up for yourself. In which case you should absolutely go for it. Good luck!

Nine Of Wands Reversed: Being Paranoid

9 Wands R

Nine Of Wands: A man stands holding onto a wand looking ready for battle. He’s primed and prepped to defend his territory. The bandage around his head suggests he’s experienced heavy fighting. The line of wands at his rear are the skills he’s drawn on to survive.

Reversed, the man is drawing on this energy in a dysfunctional way. He’s on guard. Defensive. Fired up for no reason. Prepared for a fight without any provocation. Paranoid.

I would expect this card to come up on a regular basis for survivors. Those who’ve experienced a great deal of trauma in their lives. It can be hard when you’ve lived through a lot of battles to believe you don’t need to fight anymore.

Anyone like to share their experiences with this card?

Nine Of Wands: Showing Resilience

9 Wands

I’m feeling particularly proud of my two teenage daughters today. They’e both been through some pretty rough experiences in recent years. As a mother all you want to do is protect your children but you can’t always. You don’t have control over the people who enter their lives or the battles they face, be they due to internal or external factors. Yet despite the scars my daughters carry they keep brushing themselves down and battling away.

This is the Nine Of Wands in action. Look at that fella in the card. You can tell by the bandage he’s been wounded and the fact that it’s wound around his head suggests his scars are mental ones. Yet he continues to stand there in an offensive posture defending his territory.

At the primary school where I work we talk a lot about resilience – or rather, the lack of it. Children who send their parents in to fight their battles for them. Who refuse to carry their own schoolbag, insist on a bandaid when they scrape a knee the tiniest little bit or skip school because it’s their birthday. They’re called the cotton wool generation, right? Whereas my parent’s pre-war generation are like the opposite. Never complain. Work hard. Use work as therapy. They are my model for resilience.

Do you think the younger generation lack resilience?

Three Of Wands: Broadening Your Talents

Here’s some of the weird and wacky things I bought at the market this morning as part of my new eating regime: chicken feet, lamb necks, wallaby steaks, saltgrass-fed lamb shoulder from Flinder’s Island, a pot of kale, an enormous lamb liver, fish heads, fresh sardines, komboucha (fermented tea), coconut flour and a lamb’s heart. Might take me awhile to work up the courage to eat that last one, lol.

As I was driving home I got to thinking about how I’m in the process of developing a whole new set of skills in the kitchen. This seems like a Three Of Wands experience to me. Continue reading

Six Of Wands: Winning!

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I’ve been diagnosed with an auto-immune condition called Alopecia Areata which causes random bald spots to form on your head. I only have one so far, thank God, but have been under threat of more.

Auto-immune conditions are not very well understood. The first thing my doctor told me was that she wasn’t able to help my condition, only monitor it. That I might get lots more spots or none. That it might take years for my hair to grow back. Oh, yay! Continue reading
