A Writer. One who finds ways to talk about the unseen.
I read this definition today on a post from the wonderful folk at Writers Unboxed. It’s probably why it’s taking me so long to finish my first novel. Wrestling the invisible to the ground is a tricky business, lol.
I haven’t written much about The Hermit card on this blog. We all have our biases and I haven’t felt like I had much to say about him (or her). But seriously, talk about being blind. There is a blaring example of The Hermit card in my life at the moment. It hit me today as I drove a loved one to her weekly counseling session. The Hermit is the therapist of course. The counsellor. The psychiatrist. We all need someone at some time in our lives to guide us through the mess of our emotions and thoughts. Sometimes it can be friends who play this role. Sometimes self-help books. You can google The Hermit, seek advice online. Grandparents can be great Hermits because they’re not under pressure like our parents to make us do the responsible thing. So you can rely on them for honest advice.
Who or what do you turn to when you need The Hermit?
I wrote this post almost a year ago but felt it was time to run it again. It really sums up how I use Tarot cards myself…
When the Justice card turns up in a reading you know that whatever situation you’re dealing with you need to approach it rationally. This is not the time to let your emotions carry you away. Think about the pros and the cons. Write them down. Weigh them up. Make a decision based on the facts. Ignore your feelings. The Justice card is like a big flashing neon sign that reads: Whatever you do, be rational!
Actually this post was meant to be about mice not skeletons. Specifically, the mouse living inside the walls of my house. I suspect its been there for awhile but this winter it’s really made its presence felt. I hear it scratching on the lounge room ceiling while I’m trying to watch TV and rustling beneath the floorboards of my bedroom in the wee hours. A couple of times its ventured out overnight to leave calling cards in the kitchen, bless. And once I saw it scuttling back into its hidey hole when I got up during the night to go to the toilet. What a whooper! I’m obviously a great host.
I’ve just finished reading Dan Brown’s latest blockbuster ‘Inferno’. I loved ‘The Da Vinci Code’ and have read several of his other novels. Some of my friends look down their noses at his writing and when I started reading ‘Inferno’ I was determined to pay closer attention to the text. And what a shock it was. Either his writing has deteriorated or I’ve been blind. Large slabs of the story were basically travelogue slash history lesson. But I read on because there were still things for me to enjoy in the story.
This to me is a Two Of Pentacles situation. I was prepared to put up with the tedious writing to enjoy the benefits of a good plot. In life you have to juggle the good with the bad.

Shame, shame on me. I’ve been writing this blog for almost a year and you’d think I’d have covered all the cards in the deck by now but I haven’t mentioned this one once.
Nine Of Cups: A well-fed well-dressed middle-aged man sits in front of nine golden cups arranged in an orderly fashion on a fancy tablecloth. His face wears an expression of satisfaction and his arms are crossed as if to say, ‘Don’t touch. They’re mine.’ Here is someone who’s satisfied with their lot and doesn’t want to change a thing.
This is the wishes-come-true card. The accomplishment of one’s deepest desires. Partner, job, children, house…all sorted. This is the cat who’s got the cream.
It’s important to not just look at Tarot cards in isolation. Examining the similarities and differences between Tarot cards helps you understand them better.
