Throwback Thursday: The Holy Book Of Tarot

I’ve decided to dedicate Thursdays to re-running old posts. Maybe mashed up together or with new information thrown in. Because there are some Tarot stories that deserve to be retold. Because I want to refocus on central themes from time to time. Today is one of those occasions.

One of the reasons I love Tarot cards so much is that they’re deeply meaningful. In particular the group of cards commonly known as The Major Arcana. I refer to them as Life Lessons Tarot because together they read like a book about the core life experiences of a human being. For me this is Tarot’s Holy Book. I’ve divided it up into three volumes and a prologue.

The Tarot Of Shane Koyczan’s Anti-Bullying Love Poem ‘To This Day’

A Canadian poet by the name of Shane Koyczan posted an animated spoken poem called ‘To This Day’ to YouTube a week or so ago which has gone viral. It deals with the profound and lasting impact bullying at school can have on the individual. This is an issue which has impacted my immediate family in a profound way over the last couple of years and is close to my heart. Wow. I feel like I’ve bitten off a big topic today. But as The Fool would say, ‘Feel the fear and do it anyway.’ I usually try to steer clear of controversy but the Judgement card always brings out the heaviest subjects to deal with. And if this blog is to fulfill its mission to discuss all aspects of Tarot then occasionally I’m gonna have to stick my neck out. Gulp.

I started this post several weeks ago when it was the watercooler story of the day. Then put it on ice when I went away on holiday. But Lance’s very qualified confession makes it the story that just keeps on giving. There seem to be so many levels to his deception. A few more were explored tonight on a cutting edge Australian current affairs program ‘Four Corners’.

Justice Or Judgement: You Be The Judge!

This delightful ad recently appeared in a small Wyoming newspaper:

400 For Sale: Trucks

VERY mad mother selling 16 yr. old son’s 1993 Ford Ranger. Drove 3 mos. before son forgot to use his brain and got caught driving drunk. $3,500 OBO. Call meanest mother in Wyoming.

Is that the sound of parents around the world standing up and applauding I hear? We should all be so mean. Talk about teaching her son a lesson. And maybe saving his life into the bargain. Mean Mom is a trucker who probably knows from experience that alcohol and  wheels are a lethal combination. What makes her so special is that she isn’t afraid to take away her child’s toy (so to speak) when he’s done the wrong thing. This in the age of the helicopter parent makes her highly unusual.

There are two possible Tarot cards that might represent this situation.
