Four Of Swords: Sunday – The Day Of Rest (Thank God!)

If ever a Tarot card was made for describing a day of the week it is this one.

4 Swords

Four of Swords: Time out. Especially from thinking. Talk about summing up Sundays in a nutshell. It’s the one day of the week you feel you have permission to cut yourself some slack and kick back a little bit. Hang out with your loved ones. Forget about the paperwork. Have a rest.

We all spend way too much time doing this…

8 Swords

Eight of Swords: Over-thinking. There’s just too much information to process these days. At work. At home. We’re all hooked into the mainframe wherever we are downloading bytes for our brains to snack on. Shouted at by advertising billboards wherever we go. It’s hard to get your head straight with all that noise. So its great to have a day when you can give yourself permission to not think at all. Clear your mind.

On that note, God forbid I add to the white noise pollution. Write a post just for the sake of it. Because all the ‘experts’ out there say you have to post consistently to get peeps to follow your blog. Because PR rules dictate that is how you become successful. I can feel myself on the verge sometimes. Especially when I’m tired. But usually the most amazing thing happens. Once I force myself to start thinking Tarot again all these ideas pop into my head. But still, I’m making you a pledge here and now dear reader. If ever I feel like I really don’t have something to say I won’t post that day. I know you can tell the difference. Smell when something’s not authentic. And even though I’m a Gemini I don’t want to write just for the sake of it. I want it to be meaningful (that’s my Mars-Pluto conjunction in Virgo.)

And if you think I’m talking out of my arse about something please call me on it. It’s only by sharing our knowledge that we can get the full picture about Tarot (or anything for that matter) 🙂

Knight Of Swords: A Man In A Hurry (I Know How He Feels!)

Knight Swords

Aaaaaaaaah! This week has been pure madness. I’ve been rushing around like a lunatic. There are just too many things that need doing TODAY. Every day. Too many boxes to tick. And tomorrow is looking just as fraught. Stop the world I want to get off! Thank all the gods (Tarot is non-sectarian) for my wonderful bosses who slipped me some time release from teaching this morning. Otherwise I’d probably still be finishing stuff off now.

This is very much Continue reading

Seven Of Swords: Taking Advantage!

Seven of Swords: A man carrying five swords in his arms looks back as if to check whether or not he’s being followed. The fact that he’s walking on tippy toes adds to the impression he’s being sneaky in some way. In the background a group of figures – the owners of the swords perhaps? – sit so deep in discussion they don’t notice the swords being snuck away from their camp.

Looks bad doesn’t it? And yeah, the man could be flat out stealing those swords, like derr! In a reading this card could be a reference to someone taking something from you without you having noticed. But like a sword this card cuts two ways. Maybe the campers don’t want those swords anyway. Maybe that’s like their rubbish pile. They’re certainly not keeping a close eye on them. Maybe that crafty looking bloke is actually doing them a favour!

This card is all about being strategic. Looking for opportunities that are to your advantage and taking them. Using your mind rather than your muscles to get what you want. Sometimes that might involve an outright scam and other times something more salubrious such as selective communication. Like, only telling your bosses what’s to your advantage as an employee. Like, not mentioning how much that new pair of shoes/golf bag cost to your other half. Like, avoiding the chocolate aisle when shopping with your children ’cause what they can’t see, they won’t want. Not outright lying, just not sharing the whole story.

As a Gemini I’m all for a bit of verbal blind-siding (never nasty) to smooth my path through life. (Is that bad do you think?) What about you?

Five Of Swords: Are You The Bully Or The Victim?

5 SwordsFive of Swords: A man in the foreground holding three swords looks mighty pleased with himself. Two other swords lie discarded on the ground near his feet. In the far distance a man appears to be crying by the water’s edge whilst yet another heads in his direction as if to offer comfort. Storm clouds fill the sky. Some kind of argument has clearly occurred leaving both a winner, a loser and the man in between.

The number five represents struggle street. Swords are our thoughts and words. In real life swords can cause a lot of damage when used as a weapon. And we all know from experience that the saying ‘sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me’ is a wishful one. Just like swords words can wound. Deeply.

Getting this card in a reading suggests you are involved in some kind of power struggle. And the question always is: Who do you identify with most in the card?

If you see yourself as the winner this card suggests you may need to take a long hard look at yourself. Reassess the cost of your victories (like, your soul, man.)

If you see yourself as the loser this card suggests you might need to try another way because you’re not going to win this battle head on.

And if you are the one offering comfort, bless you.

So. Which one are you? The bully or the victim or the one caught in between?

The Tarot Of Introverts

I’m a massive introvert. By that I mean I need a lot of time by myself. This is because there’s a party going on in my head all the time that demands attention. Party, imagination, stories, other worlds, same diff. I think a lot of writers are introverts. My friends and family find it hard to believe I’m one of these strange creatures because I actually like talking to people. You can tell. But there’s the thing, despite the popular misconception being an introvert doesn’t make you anti-social. It just makes you feel really really tired when you’ve had people in your face all day long. More than is normal tired.

So I’ve been pondering the Tarot of Introverts and here’s what I’ve come up with: Continue reading

Death In Its Infinite Variety

My thoughts today are with the families and friends of those who have passed away during  the once-in-a-lifetime weather event happening along the U.S. east coast. So I thought I’d explore different types of death Tarot style. Keeping in mind that the Death card doesn’t always mean someone is going to die. Far from it. But sometimes it does. Death during a freak event such as Hurricane Sandy would be represented as follows:

Tarot: So Much More Than A Fortune Teller’s Tool

unknown-1

I had a comment on my blog the other day (yay a comment!) asking me to predict somebody’s fate, her doom even. I declined of course, being the non-psychic Tarot card reader that I am (As if I’d want to predict someone’s doom anyway. What the?) As I’ve said before that’s not what this blog is on about. I mean, yeah, sure, you can use Tarot cards to predict the future if you want (I keep warning you but that you can get into trouble if you do. Feel chained to a particular outcome. Mind you, that doesn’t stop me doing it now and then, ha!) But as I cannot emphasise enough there is more to Tarot than that. Clearly the message needs to be hammered home with triple exclamation points: Tarot is so much more than a fortune teller’s tool!!!

What kind of more you ask? Well, for starters… Continue reading

The Tarot Of T.G.I.F.

images

I had that darn Katy Perry song ‘Last Friday Night’ stuck in my head for months this year. You know, the one that has a chorus singing T.G.I.F. T.G.I.F. T.G.I.F. louder and louder. Well, after a week back at work, I couldn’t agree with that lyric more. So just for fun I thought I’d explore the Tarot of Thank God It’s Friday.

This is how I normally feel by Friday… Continue reading

The Tarot Of Meetings

unknown

I have to attend a long meeting after work tomorrow and already my spirits are sinking at the thought. So just to amuse myself (and hopefully you too) I thought I’d contemplate the Tarot of meetings. Continue reading
