Tarot Thoughts On Blogging

So, I’ve been blogging for a while now and thought I’d explore my experience through Tarot cards…

The Tarot Of Game Of Thrones Season Two

I’ve just been on a mad Game Of Thrones bender. Watched all season two in one long blissful night. So I thought I’d have a go at discussing the Tarot of GOT Season Two. I won’t be able to explain everything, the tapestry is too rich, but will try to pinpoint some of the major themes and characters.

FYI: The Medical Tarot

I thought we might have a look today at Tarot cards associated with medical issues. NOTE: Just because these cards turn up in a reading does NOT mean you have a medical condition. As I keep on saying, there are 50 shades of Tarot, 50 possible meanings (or thereabouts), for each card. Please take the following with a large grain of salt. Some I’m sure of. Others are educated guesses.

The Tarot Of The Kate Middleton Radio DJ Phone Prank Tragedy

The big news in Australia at the moment is about the Radio DJ prank that went horribly wrong. The story goes like this…

The Empress: Prince William’s wife Kate Middleton falls pregnant.

The Star

The Star: Unfortunately she suffers from a little known pregnancy condition called Hyperemesis Gravidarum – otherwise known as ‘living hell’ to sufferers – that causes severe vomiting forcing her to be hospitalised for bed rest and rehydration.

The Magician: An Australian radio production team comes up with the bright idea to ring up the hospital where Kate is staying for a lark. The two DJs pretend (badly) to be Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles.

Wheel Of Fortune

The Wheel Of Fortune: In an unexpected development the radio DJs are put through to Kate’s room by a nurse who was filling in on reception where they hear personal details about Kate’s condition. The radio station broadcasts the phone call.

The World

The World: The prank captures the attention of the world. British paparazzi are miffed that two obscure antipodean DJs got the scoop ahead of them. One of the DJs boasts on Twitter that he will never ever top this success in his future career.

5 Swords

Five Of Swords: We are far away in Australia and not as obsessed with the royal family as the British but it seems that the two nurses who spoke on the phone must have been put under enormous pressure either by their superiors or by the press. This is the only thing that can explain what occurred next.

Death: Unfortunately, tragically, one of the nurses who spoke on the phone is believed to have committed suicide. (Note: If you’re feeling emotionally fragile while reading this post please contact a health professional.)

Judgement: As a result the two DJs who performed this prank are themselves now under enormous pressure to explain themselves. Yet there are many people who contributed to this tragedy: The station manager/lawyers/owners. The press who whipped up the story. Those who passed it on.

What we all really need is…

4 Swords

Four Of Swords: Time out to reflect on the situation. The radio station that the DJs work for has released a statement saying that prank calls will cease immediately across all its networks while a comprehensive review takes place. It’s the least they can do in the circumstances.

6 Wands R

Six Of Wands Reversed: There are no winners here. Kate’s privacy was invaded. Two nurses were humiliated in front of the world. Two young DJs are now being persecuted. And absolutely worst of all: A woman has died. My thoughts are with her husband and children at this time.

What are your thoughts on this terrible tragedy?

The Fool + Death: Dumb Ways To Die!

So. As well as sharing ideas about Tarot cards I want this blog to be a bit of light-hearted fun. To that end I am dedicating my post today to an AWESOME video clip made by the train authority in my home town of Melbourne (who’d have thunk it?) It’s called ‘Dumb Ways To Die’ and you can find it on Youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJNR2EpS0jw. I will also post it to my Facebook ‘The Tarot Teaclub’ page.

The video was made to discourage people from acting in a life-endangering manner around trains. Trying to sneak around boom gates in their car or jumping down onto the tracks to collect something that’s been dropped. That sort of thing. This is very much a Fool + Death scenario. The Fool card represents idiots in every shade. Funny ones or just plain stupid (or both). It’s number 0 in Life Lessons Tarot i.e. The know nothing card.

The Fool’s always good for a laff. Enjoy!

Death In Its Infinite Variety

My thoughts today are with the families and friends of those who have passed away during  the once-in-a-lifetime weather event happening along the U.S. east coast. So I thought I’d explore different types of death Tarot style. Keeping in mind that the Death card doesn’t always mean someone is going to die. Far from it. But sometimes it does. Death during a freak event such as Hurricane Sandy would be represented as follows:

The Holy Book – Volume 1

The Major Arcana cards read like a book that follows the journey of a human soul through life.

The first volume covers childhood:

The Fool

The Fool – The soul waiting to be born

The MagicianThe Magician – The newborn who seems perfect in every way and has so much potential.

The High PriestessThe High Priestess – The baby living off instinct during the first months and years.

The EmpressThe Empress – The child at play

The EmperorThe Emperor – The child being disciplined

The HierophantThe Hierophant – The school child forming ideas about the world

The LoversThe Lovers – The teenager beginning to make choices about what they want and who they want to be with.

The ChariotThe Chariot – The young adult striving for success.

That’s one way of looking at it anyway. There are many more. That’s the beautiful confusing thing about Tarot. It’s like a diamond. Every time you turn it in your hand you see another side.

What about you? What’s your take on the first 8 cards of the Holy Book of Tarot?
