Without a doubt Judgement has been one of the hardest Tarot cards for me to crack. When I first started studying Tarot twenty years ago I just didn’t get it at all. Which isn’t surprising really. As the penultimate card in the Life Lessons section of the deck (aka the Major Arcana) it represents an incredibly profound and beautiful human experience. One many never truly embrace.

I’ve had way more experience of mental health issues in the last few years than I ever wanted to so I thought it might be time to tackle the Tarot of Mental Illness in more depth. Tarot: It’s Not About Being A Spiritual Human Being It’s About Being A Decent Human Being!

Spiritual practice will not eliminate negative emotions. Emotions are part of the palette of life, part of the way consciousness moves. Not only can’t you get rid of them, but you’d feel empty and impoverished if you did. Practice can change your relationship to emotions, so that instead of being swamped by certain feeling states, you can hold them, contain them, see into their essence, and ultimately, use emotions in the service of your liberation.

I read this on Mystic Medusa’s blog today and immediately thought: Hells to the yeah! Too many peeps confuse being a spiritual person with being a good person. Imo they are not the same thing and you can see this clearly in Life Lessons Tarot (aka the Major Arcana).

Tarot Card Angels

My weekly email from Biddy Tarot has inspired me to look at the angels in Tarot. They are found on Life Lessons (aka Major Arcana) cards which are the most significant ones in the Tarot deck. Each is an archangel i.e. they are serious players in the angelic world, what they have to say is important. So if they turn up in a reading, pay attention!

Judgement: Softening What’s Rigid In Your Heart

Reading these words really hit home for me…

‘If we want there to be peace in the world, we have to be brave enough to soften what is rigid in our hearts, to find the soft spot and stay with it. We have to have that kind of courage and take that kind of responsibility. That’s the true practice of peace.’

To me this is a classic Judgement quote. Because the ultimate judgement is to be compassionate. To forgive others. To forgive yourself. To soften what’s rigid in your heart. Only when you do that can you reach the ultimate Tarot card: The World.
