The Empress Reversed: Neglect

The Empress R

The Empress card is about nurturing and the opposite of nurturing is neglect. So it figures that neglect would be one of the meanings of The Empress Reversed. I feel like I’ve been neglecting you dear Teaclubbers by not writing more often on this blog. Yes, it’s easier for me to write posts in one hit. But this blog isn’t just about me. One of the things I’ve learnt about writing in the last year is that you need to write to suit your audience. Not yourself. So I’m going to try to blog more often. Maybe do shorter hits. I’m still tweaking this blog, working out how to make it zing. Please let me know what works best for you. Cheers!

The Empress: Feeling Fat

The Empress

I’m having a fat day. As a rule I don’t have them often and it doesn’t worry me too much as the feeling will pass, but it puts me in mind of The Empress card. She rules indulgence. Lazy days. Enjoying your favourite foods. Lying out in the sun for hours on end trolling through crap magazines or the internet on your iPhone. Sometimes she can go a bit too far.  Too much chocolate, not enough exercise (cough cough that could be me) and before you know it the scales have crept up a notch or two. Next thing The Emperor card will be popping up in your readings signaling that’s it time to get some self-discipline into your daily routine.

Do you ever have ‘feeling fat’ days?

Empress + The Chariot: Car Grooming. It’s A Thing Right?

As I was plucking hairs out of my chin in my car the other day (Too much information? Ah middle age, it’s sooo much fun) it occurred to me that right across the city there were probably hundreds if not thousands of women doing exactly the same thing while their cars were idling at stoplights: Applying eyeshadow or lipstick, checking their make-up in the mirror, maybe brushing their hair. And it’s not only women grooming themselves on the go. Men have been getting in on the act too. I’ve heard of people doing all sorts of things in their cars on the way to work: Eating bowls of cereal, even shaving (not sure how???) And of course when people aren’t grooming themselves they’re talking on the phone or texting. Cars are so comfy these days it’s easy to forget you’re driving a potentially dangerous machine especially in gridlocked traffic. And multi-tasking in the car saves time at either end of the drive.

I’m filing this phenomenon under two cards. The Empress because she likes to look her best and is quite body focused. The Chariot because not only am I talking about an activity taking place inside a car (i.e. a metal chariot) but it’s also an activity done to improve your chances of social success.

Do you groom yourself in the car? Come on. ‘Fess up.

The World: For When Life Feels Joyful!

Well here’s a news flash that got my heart dancing. Forget about politics and shit…

A gigantic herd of dolphins has been spotted off the San Diego coastline. The phenomenon called a ‘super pod’ is about seven miles long and five miles wide. Which is a little bit mind blowing for someone like moi. I get excited when I see one dolphin in the wild let alone 100,000. It’s like Dolphin Convention 2013 out there. Apparently the super pod is is a rare but noted event which takes place at sporadic intervals for no apparent reason. Dolphin experts have just been shaking their heads with embarrassment when asked to please explain this behaviour.

You can view footage of the super pod taken from a tourist boat on my Facebook page or at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZbA421hIhs. The boat captain said he’s never seen anything like it. To quote: ‘They were coming from all directions, you could see them from as far as the eye could see. I’ve seen a lot of stuff out here. But this is the biggest I’ve ever seen, ever.’ When an old sea dog is gob-smacked it stands to reason that the rest of us should stand up and pay attention. Something truly miraculous has occurred. And when you watch the footage I’m sure you’ll agree. There’s something incredibly joyful about watching dolphins at play. Puts me in mind of this Tarot card…

The Empress: The Motherhood Rap

Well you know I love a good bit of popular culture. I watched this hilarious kick ass video today on YouTube called ‘The Motherhood Rap’ which has gone viral. In it a woman sings about being a mum all in the aid of selling a particular brand of car. Those advertisement kids are getting more and more creative aren’t they?

On so many levels the video embodies this card:

The Empress
