Throwback Thursday: The Holy Book Of Tarot

I’ve decided to dedicate Thursdays to re-running old posts. Maybe mashed up together or with new information thrown in. Because there are some Tarot stories that deserve to be retold. Because I want to refocus on central themes from time to time. Today is one of those occasions.

One of the reasons I love Tarot cards so much is that they’re deeply meaningful. In particular the group of cards commonly known as The Major Arcana. I refer to them as Life Lessons Tarot because together they read like a book about the core life experiences of a human being. For me this is Tarot’s Holy Book. I’ve divided it up into three volumes and a prologue.

The Tarot Of Being A Writer

I’ve been writing novels in my leisure time for years. Haven’t finished any yet but here are some things I’ve learned along the way…

It takes two things to be a writer:

The Tarot Of Shane Koyczan’s Anti-Bullying Love Poem ‘To This Day’

A Canadian poet by the name of Shane Koyczan posted an animated spoken poem called ‘To This Day’ to YouTube a week or so ago which has gone viral. It deals with the profound and lasting impact bullying at school can have on the individual. This is an issue which has impacted my immediate family in a profound way over the last couple of years and is close to my heart. I’m going to examine the Tarot of the poem which you can find on my Facebook page or at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vE1Y2vGVcxw.

The Moon: Your Greatest Spider Nightmare Come True!

Spider Rain

For those other arachnophobes out there comes the delightful news that it’s literally raining spiders in Brazil. A swarm of the darn things have set up home across the skyline dangling off power lines and other surfaces in Santo Antonio da Plantina. Basically forming a giant net in the sky. Yuck! They seem to be pretty large critters as well if you compare their size to the power pole transformers. Double yuck! It gets worse. Apparently some spider species have learnt to cooperate and weave (boom boom) extensive social networks. It’s almost as if they have a hive mind. I’ll be crossing Brazil off my bucket list of countries to visit then.

FYI: The Medical Tarot

I thought we might have a look today at Tarot cards associated with medical issues. NOTE: Just because these cards turn up in a reading does NOT mean you have a medical condition. As I keep on saying, there are 50 shades of Tarot, 50 possible meanings (or thereabouts), for each card. Please take the following with a large grain of salt. Some I’m sure of. Others are educated guesses.

The Moon In All Her Glory

The MoonWow. I think you’re going to be blown away by the link I’m sharing with you today. Just as I’ve been. It’s a real time video of the full moon a couple of days ago rising over the Mount Victoria Lookout in Wellington, New Zealand. The video, shot 2 k away on the other side of the city by astrophotographer Mark Gee, shows people gathering at the lookout as the moon comes up over the horizon.

The Moon: What Lies Beneath! When monsters walk out of myth and into reality!

The Moon

I’m featuring The Moon quite a lot this week aren’t I? As I’ve said before, once you start focusing on a particular Tarot card you find it popping up everywhere. One of the meanings of this card is ‘what lies beneath’. This can refer to the murky realms of the subconscious or the murky realms of other stuff like history or dreams. Today’s version refers to the murky depths of the ocean.

The Tarot Of Why My Holidays Have Not Lived Up to My Expectations (Do You Know That Feeling?)

I don’t know about you but my Christmas holiday this year has not lived up to my expectations. It’s probably normal. You’re probably nodding your head right now, thinking, I hear you sister. Some of you at least. Holidays are unreliable like that, aren’t they? No matter how much planning you put into them you never know for sure how they’re gonna turn out. Makes me think of this card…

The Twelve Days Of Christmas? Sure It’s Not Thirteen?

Christmas TreeAnd so, I’m back. Last night was the twelfth night of Christmas otherwise known as Epiphany Eve. A night that is celebrated all over Christendom. It marks the end of the Christmas season. The rest and the revelries. It’s when you’re sposed to take your Christmas tree down although mine never lasts that long.

No one pays much attention to the Epiphany in my part of the western world but in Europe it has long been celebrated as an important occasion. The bookend to Christmas day. Officially it’s meant to acknowledge the three wise men’s visit to the baby Jesus but there are many strange traditions associated with the Epiphany which make you question its origins.
